What do I need to bring to this mat Pilates class?

You will bring your own exercise mat, and we recommend a thicker mat (at least 5/8") than what you might use for yoga. If you have a thin yoga mat, you may want to bring a large beach towel to place under your mat. You also want to bring a water bottle and a pair of very light weights, no more than 2 pounds each.

How do I sign up for a free mat class in Circle C Ranch?

What do I wear to a mat Pilates class?

We recommend wearing fitted workout clothes such as bike shorts, leggings, or jogger-style pants with cuffed hem. Avoid wearing pants or shorts with belts.

Is this a hot Pilates class?

No. Our mat class is taught in an air conditioned room averaging 72 degrees F. More people and morning sunshine coming through the windows may make the room feel warmer, but it's climate controlled.

Does this mat Pilates count as cardio?

No, Pilates Method exercises are not intended to raise and sustain your heartrate for a cardio workout. Pilates does improve strength, endurance, stamina, coordination, mobility, focus and overall well-being.

Does mat Pilates count as resistance training?

It depends on your current fitness level and what you do for exercise. When beginning an exercise routine for the first time or returning to exercise, the weight of your arms, legs and head act as resistance during Pilates core exercises. Over time, your core strength improves and your body weight improves stamina and endurance. In mat Pilates, we also use elastic bands, light weights and other props to explore resistance and assistance in our exercises.

Can I wear sticky socks or regular socks in mat Pilates?

If you want to wear socks, we recommend sticky socks -- or bare feet.

All participants must complete a short fitness readiness questionnaire and sign a waiver/release of liability before class.

I look forward to seeing you in class on May 2!
